Family photography sessions are always special, but there’s something truly magical about an extended family session. There’s more laughter, more love, and yes—more challenges! Recently, I had the pleasure of photographing a beautiful extended family, including grandparents, parents, cousins, and everyone in between. And while we were blessed with love and togetherness, we also faced one of nature’s most relentless forces: humidity.
The Setting: A Gorgeous but Humid Summer Day
Picture this: the air was thick with humidity, the kind that immediately fogs up your camera lens (see video) and makes you feel like you’re walking through a steam room. But despite the high temperatures and heavy air, this family brought their best energy, creating an atmosphere of joy that far outweighed the weather conditions.
We gathered in a lush, green location that provided the perfect backdrop for their family portraits. Even though the humidity was high, the setting was serene and beautiful—exactly what we needed to complement this close-knit family’s love for each other.
One of my favorite moments was photographing all the cousins together. Their bond was clear, with the older kids helping the younger ones find their spots and making sure everyone was smiling. These kinds of connections are priceless and exactly what makes extended family sessions so meaningful.
The Results: Stunning Photos Against All Odds
Even though we were all battling the heat and humidity, the photos turned out to be absolutely gorgeous. The soft light filtering through the trees and the slightly dewy look on everyone’s faces gave the images a natural glow. Despite the challenging conditions, this family radiated warmth and happiness, and it shows in every shot.
The candid moments of laughter, hugs, and shared smiles made the images truly special. These photos are not just snapshots of a single day—they’re timeless memories that this family will cherish for years to come.
Why It’s Worth It
Extended family sessions are no small feat, especially when you’re up against unpredictable elements like humidity. But in the end, the effort is always worth it. These sessions capture the essence of family—the love, the laughter, and the togetherness that transcends any challenges thrown our way.
This family embraced the experience wholeheartedly, and the result was a beautiful collection of photos that reflect their unique bond. It’s moments like these that remind me why I love being a photographer—capturing memories that will be passed down through generations.
If you’re thinking about an extended family session, know that no matter the conditions, there’s always magic to be found when family comes together. Ready to capture your own family’s story? Let’s make it happen—humidity, sweat and all!
